Mary/Steve

It had been a couple of weeks since Mary returned to the island and she had been busy. She had stayed with her brother at their childhood home for a few days since her arrival, mostly because she had been busted for trying to smoke on the airplane but her brother had been able to pull rank and have her released into his custody after arrival in Honolulu. When she stayed with Steve, she had come across a toolbox in their father’s office. When she had questioned Steve about it, he told her it was nothing and ordered her to leave it alone and put it back. She had agreed to do so just to placate her brother but she couldn’t leave it alone. She was curious and wanted to know what everything in the toolbox meant.
So behind her brother’s back, she first took pictures of the items in the toolbox. Then she started analyzing the items. After hours of work she seemed to be getting nowhere but she what had interested her the most about all of the items were the photos of what looked to be HPD’s case file on her mother’s death.
She had spend a few more days digging into the clues. She wanted to talk to Steve about it but at the same time, she wanted to keep chipping away at the clues and trying to put things together. She’d talk to her brother after she had more information that he could use in his own investigation. Plus, she didn’t want to hear the lecture she’d get from her big brother when he learned that she didn’t leave the toolbox alone like he had asked.
One morning, Mary was in her kitchen making breakfast when she heard a car pull up in the driveway of her rental unit. Going to her living room, she looked out the window in time to see a man rushing to her door and kicking it open, leaving her no time to make a break for the back door of the house. As the man approached her, she tried to keep out of arm’s reach of him. While Mary was scrappy and could hold her own in a fight, the intruder was armed and he was likely stronger than she was.
“What do you want from me?” Mary asked. She was trying to stall as she thought up a plan. She needed to get to the back door. If she was able to escape the house she had a good chance at being able to call her brother with her cell phone that was in her pocket.
“You have information that my boss wants.” The man said. He made a move to grab her arm but Mary moved out of the way. She feinted left and the man took her bait before she made a break to the right, running in the direction of the back of the house. The man grabbed her and Mary fought with all of her strength. In their battle, they were making quite the mess of her living room as things were getting knocked over. There was obvious signs that a struggle took place.
She managed to get a good hit to his groin which made him release her as he doubled over in pain. Scrambling to her feet, Mary ran to her back door. She had almost made it before she was pulled back by the man again and they struggled some more. She landed a good punch to the man’s jaw and even she was surprised to see that she had caused him to lose a tooth. After the man spit the tooth out with a bunch of blood, he backhanded her hard, sending her to the ground. Mary wasn’t fast enough in breaking her fall and her head hit the cement floor. Dazed, she rolled to her side as she tried to shake the fog away. The man nudged her shoulder so that she was lying on her back and he pinned her and she felt the muzzle of a gun press roughly against her cheek. The man pulled her to her feet, keeping the gun pressed to her back as he manhandled her out the front door and to the waiting car where another man was standing by the open trunk.
“What took so long?” The other man asked.
“We have a feisty one. The boss told us to expect as much.” Mary felt the gun press deeper into her back as the second man pulled the duct tape out of the trunk and wrapped tape around her wrists.
“My brother is 5-0. He’s going to come looking for me and if he finds you he’s going to kill you.” It was the best threat she could give. “If you let me go, I won’t tell him what happened.”
“Your brother is going to find nothing but your body after the boss is finished with you. Though i you cooperate he may let you live.” The man pressing the gun into her back shoved her forward towards the trunk. “Get in.”
Mary didn’t have a choice. She was now restrained and outnumbered and she had a gun in her back. She bit back the fear that was building up inside of her as she was manhandled into the trunk. When the men shut the trunk on her, leaving her in darkness, she felt a wave of relief when they didn’t search her for a phone.
Once they were on the road for a good while and she was convinced that they weren’t stopping, Mary wiggled and pulled her phone out of her pocket. She was trying hard not to panic as she saw that the reception was poor. She would likely have one shot at calling for help so she knew who she needed to call. She pulled up her brother’s number and sobbed in relief as it rang. She knew she’d have a better chance at being found if she called her brother over 911. By the time 911 got in touch with Steve to tell him about her call, it could be too late.
When Mary heard Steve’s voice answer, her panic overwhelmed her despite her brother’s insistence that he was going to find her. Steve instructed her to kick the tail light out and when she did she was in the middle of giving him landmarks when her phone dropped the call.
“Shit! No, no, no.” Mary attempted to re-dial but her phone had no reception. She was too high up. “Okay. It’s going to be fine. Steve is going to find me. He’s a ninja and he’s going to find me.” Mary muttered to herself, trying to get herself to calm down some. She gave herself a couple of moments to breath before she started wiggling around the trunk trying to find anything she could use as a weapon but she came up empty handed.
Suddenly the car stopped and Mary listened as the driver and passenger got out of the car. They stood beside the car for a few minutes talking amongst themselves and she heard a door close and she was left in silence. Mary felt around the lid of the trunk. It was a last ditch effort to save herself as she was hoping that the car that she was in had a latch that could open the trunk and she almost cried out with relief when her fingers found it. Pulling it, the trunk lid opened and she peered out. She didn’t see anyone. There was another car in the driveway but no driver inside. Slowly but quietly she got out of the trunk, closing it as quietly as she can before she made a break for the jungle.
She ran for what she felt was hours but she knew it was likely only minutes and she heard the alarmed voices from behind her. They had figured out she had escaped. She continued to run, not knowing where she was going but all she was focused on doing was getting as far away from these men as she can. She ignored the branches of the trees hitting her and scraping her arms up and just kept running.
When she started to tire, she slowed down. She knew the men were looking for her but she had to stop and catch her breath. She pressed her back against a tree trunk as she took some deep breaths and wiggled her wrists around, trying to loosen the duct tape to no avail.
When Mary heard footsteps getting closer to her she took off again, she figured if the car she was in climbed a hill and she was running down the hill, it’d be a matter of time before her phone had service again. She just had to keep moving and find somewhere to hide to try to make a call again.
“There she is!” She heard a man call out. “Shoot her but don’t kill her! Boss wants her alive!” Another voice demanded.
Mary yelped and ducked as a shot rang out to her left and missed her. She tripped on a root and she was sent tumbling down the hill. When she managed to stop herself from sliding down the hill, she saw a large bush that had a lot of large leaves. It could hopefully provide enough cover for her to hide. She crawled into the bush, pulling her knees to her chest as she tried to stay quiet. She would wait for the men who were pursuing her to pass her and she’d continue on her way to find help.

Date: 2017-09-26 03:38 am (UTC)Once Chin provided the coordinates to Mary's phone, Steve had the car turned around and they were off to borrow a chopper. He'd be able to get to her quicker and easier that way. Good thing he knew someone who'd let him borrow theirs on short notice. Chin reporting that he lost the signal was upsetting but the area Mary had been in was limited in possibilities for a car to go. He instructed Chin to keep monitoring in case the signal came back, but he was confident he could find her as long as she stayed on the ground.
Following the road that her cell signal last had her on, Steve followed it higher up the mountain with the chopper. Danny was scanning for broken taillights with a pair of binoculars in the co-pilot's seat as they eliminated possibilities. It was the place at the top of the mountain that Danny spotted the car in question. Steve called it in as he landed the chopper as nearby as possible. Approaching the house, he was surprised to find the trunk open and empty with only one thug left at the place looking into the woods. Clearly Mary had gotten away.
Thug quickly and easily knocked out and handcuffed around the nearest tree, Steve's nature training came to the forefront. There was a lot of footprints heading into the forest, but no one ahead of him was attempting to cover their tracks. Heading in after them, Steve had every intention of taking out every individual between him and his sister.

Date: 2017-09-28 03:53 am (UTC)Giving up on trying to free herself, she very briefly assessed the injuries on her legs and arms. She had some decent sized scrapes and she was going to wake up in the morning with a few good bruises but aside from the gash on her head from her struggles with her abductors and her knuckles being cut open from her punch, she had no serious injuries.
Mary heard footsteps approaching and she froze and sat as still as she could. She didn't want to risk giving her location away. She watched through the leaves as the two men passed her hiding spot and when she thought that it was safe for her to leave, she crawled out from the safety of the plant. Mary was getting tired as her adrenaline high was coming to a crashing halt. Instead of heading down the hill or back up the hill, she went in a horizontal direction, thinking that she would put some distance between where she was now and her abductors before heading down the hill again.
When Mary thought that she had gone far enough, she started making her way down the hill. It was fairly steep and the terrain was rough as most forest floors are so she went as fast and carefully as she could. The last thing she needed to do was fall and break a leg.
"I see her! She's over there!" Mary heard a voice in the not so distance and she felt the panic rise in her again. She couldn't exactly tell where the location of the voice was so she took a chance and just continued to scale the hill downwards as fast as she could. She could hear the snapping of branches and twigs on the ground behind her. As she knew she was unlikely to outrun the men, she found a large tree to hide behind. Looking down she saw a decent sized rock and she picked it up, holding it in her still bound hands. It wasn't much of a weapon but it was better than nothing and right now it was her only option.
"There's no point in hiding Mary! We're going to find you eventually and all you are doing is pissing us off!" One of Mary's abductors called out.
Keeping her back to the tree trunk, Mary heard movement approaching the other side of the tree and before she knew it, a hand grabbed her arm and pulled her out from behind the tree. "Let go of me!" Mary yelled, swinging her arms up and down, delivering a blow to the man's face with the rock.
"Son of a bitch!" Her abductor cursed. The blow didn't do much damage but it stunned him enough to make him let her go and press his hand to the cut on his head. Dropping the bloody rock on the ground, Mary turned and ran.
